Space Lee Ufan (이우환 공간) is a dedicated annex of the Busan Museum of Art (부산시립미술관). Created as the world’s second personal museum for the artist following the one in Naoshima, Japan, the venue was planned with Lee Ufan’s direct participation in site selection, architectural base design, finishing materials, lighting, furniture, and work installations. The space exhibits 23 works across indoor galleries and an outdoor sculpture garden.

Opening hours and location

While the main building of the Busan Museum of Art and the Children’s Gallery (어린이갤러리) are closed for long-term renovation, Space Lee Ufan operates separately.

  • Operating days: Tuesday to Sunday
  • Hours: 10:00–18:00 (last entry at 17:30)
  • Regular closures: Every Monday and January 1. If a Monday is a public holiday, the annex closes the following day.
  • Address: 58 APEC-ro, Haeundae-gu, Busan (부산 해운대구 APEC로 58; U-dong, postal code 48060).

Specific open days and temporary closures may vary, so visitors should check current notices before visiting.

Admission and booking

General admission is temporarily free during the Busan Museum of Art renovation period; an end date for the free admission has not been specified.

Individual visitors do not need an advance online reservation and can enter during standard operating hours. Because the space is compact, group reservations are not accepted on the official booking system. For group visits or special assistance inquiries, contact Space Lee Ufan directly by telephone at 051-740-2600.

How to get there

  • Subway: Take Busan Metro Line 2 to BEXCO (Busan Museum of Art) Station (벡스코(시립미술관)역). Use Exit 5; the museum is approximately 100 meters away.
  • Parking: The museum parking lot is closed due to the renovation of the main building. Visitors arriving by car must check operating hours and fees at nearby public or private parking facilities. Arriving before 17:00 is advised to allow time for parking ahead of the 17:30 entry cutoff.

What to know before you go

  • Exhibition layout: The first floor features sculptures such as Relatum – The Narrow Gate (관계항-좁은 문) and Things and Language (물(物)과 언어), exploring relationships between iron plates, natural stone, and empty space. The second floor presents paintings composed of points and lines, including From Point (점으로부터), From Line (선으로부터), and With Winds (바람과 함께).
  • Audio guides instead of docents: In-person docent tours are suspended during the renovation. The museum provides audio guides via its website exhibition menu and Naver Audio Clip, so bring earphones. Unauthorised private docent tours or commercial group lectures are prohibited without consultation with the artist.
  • Outdoor elements: Check the outdoor sculpture garden and concrete exterior in addition to the indoor rooms, and take care regarding slippery paths during rain.
